Samaipata – Incas and cloud forests
We loved every minute in Samaipata, a friendly village surrounded by some very interesting sites. El Fuerte de Samaipata is a huge carved rock high up on a mountain, and was regarded as one of the most important holy sites by the Incas. There are ruins of the Inca city alongside El Fuerte which was one of the western-most settlements occupied by this dominant tribe.
A day trip to the nearby Parque Nacional Amboró gave us the opportunity to hike in a spectacular cloud forest filled with tree ferns. With average rainfall between 3000-4000mm this was a slippery experience we will remember for a long time!
